General Summary
The Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is a Ugandan not-for-profit organization whose mission is to strengthen health systems in Africa, with strong emphasis on infectious diseases, through research and capacity development. IDI has six operational areas through which it works to achieve its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training, Research, Laboratory services (including the CAP-certified IDI Core Lab & Translational Lab), Global Health Security and Health System Strengthening.
The Medical Officer will ensure delivery of quality HIV/AIDS care and treatment services to patients attending the Infectious Disease Clinic (IDC) at Mulago.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide clinical care to patients attending the clinic
• Asses and diagnose patients clinical problems.
• Order lab tests and make appropriate drug prescriptions.
• Arrange and make appropriate referral of patients for additional assessment
• Review patient files and labs to ensure continuity of patient care
• Participate as a full member of the clinic team
• Attend clinic staff meeting as required.
• Perform any other duties that may be reasonably necessary for carrying out the duties mentioned above.

Person Specification
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
• Experience and up-to-date technical knowledge of HIV/AIDS clinical care and ART
• Good communication, organization and management skills
• Understands client confidentiality and exhibits high level of ethical conduct
• Has basic computer literacy including word processing, excel, internet and power point.

Qualification requirements:
• Bachelor degree of Medicine and Surgery
• Completion of Internship
• Full and active registration with the UMDPC
• Additional training in HIV/AIDS care and opportunistic infections
