ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND SCOPE
Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission and the direct supervision of the Chief Migration Health Officer (Health Assessment Programmes) in Kampala, the successful candidate will be responsible for performing required routine clinical tasks/procedures in connection with the migration health assessment and treatment; to ensure that identified refugees and migrants are medically fit to migrate in accordance with the predefined medical requirements of the receiving countries. The successful candidate shall perform the following essential functions:
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
• Perform migration health assessment and complete related medical documentation of migrants approved for migration in accordance with the resettlement country’s Medical Examination Guidelines/Protocols for Immigrants and the IOM Migration Health Assessment Guidelines.
• Coordinate and ensure appropriate documentation of Biodata and Registration of all Migrants presenting or presented for Migration health assessment including appropriate monitoring and storage of all biodata under strict confidentiality code of conduct,
• Participate in following activities that are performed in accordance with the technical requirements of the resettlement countries:
• Medical treatment and follow up programs
• Pre-embarkation medical examination of departing refugees.
• Contribute to the analysis and technical elaboration of data gathered from the migration health assessment.
• Assist the Head of MHAC in coordinating with the local/national health authorities, physicians, hospitals, and laboratories as needed.
• Assist the head of IOM MHAC in Kampala in the preparation, design, analysis, and implementation of activities related to migration health, tuberculosis, and sexually transmitted diseases.
• Assist in developing potential health and migration projects/programmes for the Mission.
• Perform such other related duties that may be assigned by the direct supervisor
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education
Completed University degree in Medicine and Surgery from an accredited academic institution with two years of professional related experience.
Experience
• Registered with Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioner’s Board;
• Paediatric or Infectious diseases experience is an added advantage;
• Prior involvement or demonstrated knowledge in Migration Health / Travel medicine;
• Experience in migration health, migration medical assessments, epidemiology and/or international public health;
• Experience of working with international humanitarian organizations, in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage
• Nationals with a good knowledge of, and experience in, the culture and traditions of their country;
• Ability and willingness to work in difficult areas/situations.
Languages
• Fluent in English and Kiswahili.
