Job Description


Position: National Coordinator

Duty station:Kampala

Reports to:National Chairperson

Application opening: 29th/Nov/2024

Closing Date: 5th/Dec/2024

 

Job Duration: 1-year contract renewable depending on performance.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • A passionate and dedicated advocate for people with disabilities and complex medical and social needs who will support and appreciate The Uganda Parents for Deafblind Children Association (UPDBCA)’s person-centered approach, vision, and mission.
  • An effective leader with the breadth of capabilities to lead both internal operational work and external relationships and business development
  • A strategic leader with the discipline and persistence to support a strong, energized team environment based on trust and invites diverse viewpoints.
  • A leader who manages with business intelligence is data-driven and balanced with practical and reality-based experience.
  • Deep commitment to shared leadership and a collaborative and transparent approach in the management of the organization.

Board Management & Development:

  • Oversee the recruitment, development, and support of a strong and engaged Board of Directors to execute all Board policies and decisions.
  • Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board providing, in a timely and accurate manner all information necessary for the Board’s fiduciary and oversight responsibilities.
  • Drive fundraising efforts in concert with the Board and corporate team.
  • Work with the Board and its committees serve as a liaison between the Board and staff, and guide Board development.

 

Leadership, Administration, and Management

  • Vision and lead for the organization’s strategic planning efforts and budgetary prioritization.
  • Lead the corporate development team in the planning, implementation, and management of all aspects of The Uganda Parents for Deafblind Children Association (UPDBCA), including finance and administration, HR, IT, marketing and communications, quality and outcomes management, business development and strategic initiatives, and all programs.
  • Development of new business budgets and efficacy of expansion opportunities.
  • Promote collaborative impact and governance, and drive the success of a diverse, vibrant culture.

Program and Division Management:

  • Overall responsibility for ensuring the corporate development team’s management of all programs and divisions, inclusive of appropriate staffing, regulatory compliance, and within budget.
  • Implement annual planned activities in conjunction with the National and Branch/ district Executive Committees
  • Promote, support, and utilize person-centered principles and practices in every phase of the organization’s operation.
  • Develop and maintain linkages between the association and the relevant local government structures, mainstream NGOs, local NGOs (including Disabled peoples Organizations) professional bodies and other relevant institutions to promote the interests of persons with deafblindness.
  • Develop and regularly update a data base of children with deafblindness.
  • Document all lessons learnt, and generate periodic reports to the National Executive Committee and stake holders.
  • Handle general office management and administration.
  • Perform any other lawful duties as assigned by the National Executive Committee.

Public Policy and Advocacy

  • Broad understanding of social, economic, and environmental factors that influence health and successful community living for individuals with disabilities
  • Work to strengthen partnerships and foster new ones, engage national officials, key stakeholders and partner organizations, government agencies, advocacy groups, and community-based organizations to collaborate strategically
  • Using the Uganda Parents for Deafblind Children Association (UPDBCA)’s Strategic Plan as a guide, lead efforts to provide a strategic vision for system transformation reform both internally and externally, including identifying and embracing business opportunities to leverage and strengthen the Uganda Parents for Deafblind Children Association (UPDBCA)’s impact on improving health outcomes and community living for individuals with complex health and socioeconomic conditions.
  • Inform Uganda Parents for Deafblind Children Association (UPDBCA) staff and Board of Directors on national, and local policy direction. Inspire and support internal and external efforts to link policy to “on the ground” practice.

  • Success working with a Board of Directors, policymakers, and funders with the ability to cultivate new and existing relationships.
  • An experienced transformational leader who is committed to affecting change to support the Mission

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Community Rehabilitation (CBR), Mobility Rehabilitation (MBR), Social Work and Social Administration (SWASA), Development Studies, Social Work and Community Development, Social Sciences, and any related field. Post Graduate in Project Planning and Management added advantage
  • At least three (3) years of working experience coordinating projects/programs assessment, rehabilitation, and learning.
