The Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC) is an indigenous medical organization that was established in 1991 as a limited liability not-for-profit Joint-venture between the Uganda Ministry of Health (MoH), Ministry of Defense and Makerere University Medical School (now Makerere College of Health Sciences). JCRC is located on plot 101 Lubowa Hill Off Entebbe Road P.O. Box 10005 Kampala.
A vacancy at JCRC exist for a well-qualified and experienced person to be filled as indicated below;
Job Title: Nursing Officer (2)

Job Summary:
The Nursing Officer is responsible for providing evidence-based nursing care to children with cancer and blood diseases, participate in training and research under supervision of the PHO Head of Nursing
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Preform evidence based nursing assessment of patients including assessment of vital signs subjective history, and head-to-toe assessment.
• Administer chemotherapy as per established nursing practice guidelines of the PHO COE including use of the chemotherapy checklist
• Preparation of chemotherapy as per established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) (unless a dedicated oncology pharmacy has assumed this role)
• Manage the clinical space, patient flow, supplies and equipment in liaison with ED and other administrative staff
• Administer supportive care and other medications prescribed for the care of PHO patients
• Perform phlebotomy for labs ordered for PHO patient care as well as research samples
• Conduct a structured hand-off with nursing staff at shift change
• Assist physicians in performing PHO-related procedures including monitoring of patient status throughout the procedure
• Provide patient and family teaching of patient’s condition, treatment plan, and appropriate home care prior to discharge of patients
• Participate in PHO Nurse training workshops as a learner or as trainer
• Provide in-service training for junior nurses and nursing students
• Provide bedside teaching and mentorship to junior nurses and nursing students
• Participate in the development and revision of PHO nursing curriculum
• Engage in continuing nurse education (CNE) activities to maintain and improve clinical acumen
• Participate in the collection of research samples, e.g. blood draws
• Provide nursing care according to SOPs for PHO patients enrolled in research
• Ensure ethical conduct of research in allocated PHO areas, and report any suspicion of unethical research activity
• Participate in the education of patients and their families regarding participation in research
• Identify QI needs for the COE
• Participate in design and conduct of QI projects including Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycles.
Qualifications:
• Registered Nurse, BSN an added advantage, experience not below 2 years in general nursing.
• Current nursing license through all appropriate regulatory bodies
• Experience from a hospital setting will be an added advantage.
• Computer, communication and interpersonal skills.
