Job Description


Makerere University Health Services has been in operation since 1978 to serve the staff and students of the university community. Since 2018, it is under the management of the College of Health Sciences, Makerere University. It provides both preventive and curative services including out-patient care, in-patient care, diagnostic radiological and laboratory services, minor surgeries, specialist nursing services, sports medicine and physiotherapy, optometry, ENT, dental, non-communicable diseases care, HIV care and pharmacy services. The hospital seeks to be a leading healthcare organization, nationally and internationally, improving health outcomes through research, training, collaboration and innovation’. The hospital wishes to recruit suitable persons to fill the following vacancies: .

Position: 3 Nursing Officers
Salary Gross Pay: Attractive
Terms of employment: Contract
Reports to: Senior Nursing Officer.

Job Purpose To provide quality nursing services and public health care interventions to patients and the community.

Duties and responsibilities
• Receiving patients, registering admissions, discharging and deaths;
• Providing treatment to patients;
• Maintaining a clean and health environment for patients;
• Preparing and carrying out sterile procedures and disposal of medical wastes;
• Participating in bedside nursing procedures as a member of the caring team;
• Participating in Doctors/Clinical Officers Ward rounds;
• Preparing patients for meals and sensitize them on the recommended diet;
• Imparting knowledge and skills to health support staff and trainees;
• Compiling daily Ward reports and hand over to in-coming shift leader;
• Managing and accounting for allocated resources Assisting in theatre.

Key outputs
• Patients received, admissions, discharges and deaths registered;
• Treatment to patients provided;
• A clean and healthy environment for patients maintained;
• Sterile procedures prepared and carried out;
• Medical wastes safely disposed off;
• Bedside nursing procedures carried out;
• Doctors/Clinical Officers Ward rounds carried out;
• Patients prepared for meals and sensitized on the recommended diet;
• Knowledge and skills imparted; Daily Ward reports compiled and submitted; and
• Allocated resources managed and accounted for.

Person specification
Qualifications
Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing o Must be registered and licensed with the Nurses and Midwives Council.
