Job Description


Uganda Breweries Ltd (UBL) operates in a liberalized and competitive market. The consumer is now more discerning, and demands both quality and value for money. The company seeks to perform all its activities in ways that prevent environmental pollution and ensure the occupational health and safety of its employees, contractors, suppliers and visitors.

UBL is currently operating one state of the art 50,000 bph Packaging line and a 30 Kegs per hour keg Boy to meet the consumer demand requirements. Role holder leads a multi – disciplinary team of 38 Technical Operators (most of whom are unionisable)

  • Beverage packaged per year – 9 million metric cases of Beer
  • 12 hrs shift working system.
  • 24 hours operation

Purpose

  • The Shift Packaging Manager is responsible for ensuring planned Bright Beer Volumes are bottled and meet all the set quality specifications in order to deliver the daily, weekly, monthly and annual Demand requirements.

Financial Impact

  • Delivery of the Volume Annual Operating plan to deliver Net sales Value for Business (£100M)
  • Responsibility for a modern a 50,000 b/hr packaging Line (OEE >70%) during the shift
  • Share budget of UGX 5B
  • Leading a multi-disciplinary team of – people while on shift
  • Responsible for an average throughput of 2500hls (approx. UGX 1.2B) while on shift
  • Adherence to Plan(>90%) on shift guarantees planned sales volume for the day / week /month
  • Contributes to the delivery of Productivity goals for COGs (minimize waste )

Key Outputs

  • Ensure adherence to Health, Safety and Environment requirements at the work place to ensure Zero LTA and no adverse environment impact respectively.
  • Constantly work to improve compliance culture with respect to Quality, Housekeeping, cGMP & food safety requirements
  • Provide leadership, direction and coordination to the Packaging shift team (this includes asset management through proper supervision of planned maintenance jobs, breakdown recovery, as well as building an autonomous maintenance culture within the team) to ensure delivery of output targets
  • Take responsibility for Training and development of all employees on the shift to skill level to meet the current and Future needs of Packaging
  • Ensure availability of packaging inputs on the lines for planned production, stocks are reconciled, and shift waste is within the set target
  • Ensure timely and accurate posting of Stocks in SAP as well as accurate reporting of Key performance indicators and other priority

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical or electrical engineering
  • Brewing / Packaging Diploma from a reputable university/college

Experience

  • At least 3 (Three) years’ experience of packaging in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of factory rules and industrial relations, Environment regulations and waste management and control and Healthy and safety awareness.
  • Experience in food or drink manufacturing environment
  • Experience in successful management of people performance and development
