About UNFPA Project:

PATH with support from United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) piloted introduction of DMPA SC self-injection through community-based delivery approaches in two refugee hosting districts and will expand into one new district in 2020. The project objective is to increasing access and demand family planning services among refugee settings through self-care and communitybased family planning delivery approaches. This project falls under PATH’s Advancing Contraceptive Options (ACO) portfolio which encompasses PATH’s work on the introduction of DMPA SC introduction , scale up in Uganda as well as self-injection with DMPA SC(Sayana press) in humanitarian settings.

Job Summary:

The Program officer will be responsible for implementation of project activities in Lamwo, Kiryandongo and Kyegerwa districts. He/she should be able to provide practical technical implementation of the project including capacity building, advocacy and stakeholder engagement and Monitoring and evaluation support to the project. The program officer will based in Kampala with frequent travel to the field. He/she will report to Project Director-ACO.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct district mapping to project sites and VHTs to participate in the program and identify relevant contextual issues pertinent to project implementation.
  • Conduct sensitization meetings with district, cultural and refugee welfare committee leaders.
  • Provide regular update to the district and refugee camp leadership on project implementation progress.
  • Participate in intersectoral and interagency coordination meeting in respective refugee camps.
  • Conduct training of VHTs and health workers on self-injection with DMPA SC and provide post training follow up as required.
  • Conduct on site/on job mentorship and training of health workers and community health workers to ensure correct project implementation and use of tools.
  • Support collection of monitoring data during field visits.
  • Support implementation of community dialogues and provide summary reports.
  • Provide adequate supplies of self-injection requirement to project sites including DMPA SC.
  • Prepare implementation plans, budgets, and payment records for appropriately.
  • Write and submit supervision reports and follow up on action points from the supervision visits.
  • Write quarterly and annual donor reports on a timely manner.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant for the PATH Program Officer (Temporary) job should preferably hold a bachelor’s degree in public health, social science or related field
  • A background training in Nursing, Midwifery or clinical medicine is an added advantage.
  • At least three years of practical experience in project implementation.
  • Experience in provision of Family planning services including supervision of Family planning projects
  • Demonstrated experience in training community health workers and health workers on family planning.
  • Experience and familiar working in refugee settings and or district Local governments is an added advantage.
  • Excellent organization, attention to detail, coordinating, and management skills.
  • Proficient in computer packages mainly Microsoft word, excel and power points
  • Willing and able to travel upcountry for 50% of the time.
