Contract: Three-year Fixed Term Contract

It’s hard to believe that today 844 million people do not have clean water and 2.3 billion do not have a decent toilet – around one in three of the world’s population. Every two minutes, a child under five dies from diarrheal diseases caused by poor water and sanitation.
We started because no NGO like us existed. We’ll end when no organisation like us is needed. In the meantime, we’re making great progress – since 1981, we have reached 25 million people with clean water and, since 2004, 24 million people with sanitation.

WaterAid is looking for a Programme Advisor – Effective Institutions to play a vital role in our mission to make clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene normal for everyone, everywhere by 2030. .
Key Responsibilities Include:
• Leading on sector analysis and implementation of the sector strengthening agenda.
• Design and delivery of district and local level programming is aligned to deliver the sector strengthening agenda of the organisation and provide oversight and support towards the effective implementation of the sector strengthening at district and national level.
• Design of the Effecti Programme is based on a robust understanding of the sector context and blockages that undermine access to sustainable WASH services amongst the excluded populations of Uganda.
• Lead the design of projects within the programme guided by a system and rights-based approach that contributes to the programme goals as well as the strategic objectives of the organisation.
To be successful, you’ll need the following:
• A Master’s Degree in Development Studies, Public Health, WASH, or other related discipline.
• Extensive experience working in a developing country and/or humanitarian context, with prior experience in senior programme management or working towards senior programme management.
• Developed management and communication skills with the ability to motivate, support and mentor staff to produce results
• Experience in designing and implementing behaviour change activities and working within a consortium, or project with multiple partners.
• Demonstrable experience of programme design and successful proposal development.
