Job Description
The Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC) seeks to hire a suitable candidate for the position of Project Coordinator for the Fistula Cohort study to be based in Eastern Uganda with frequent travel to the field. The Successful candidates will report to the Study Principal Investigator.
Position Summary:
The Project Coordinator will work with multi-disciplinary, cross-national teams, and international collaborators, Study PI, CO-Is and the Research Director, and will contribute to other research studies as needed. The role will serve as the central person coordinating all research activities in Uganda. The position will be based in east (Soroti, Mbale) or central (Jinja, Kampala) and will oversee activities in eastern, central as well as southwestern Uganda.
Job description
• Coordinating and managing a national field research team (with frequent travel), including participating in interviewing and hiring of research team members; leadership and direct supervision of team members; and troubleshooting problems with teams;
• Coordinating data collection and management: developing work plans, managing data collection schedules, organizing the collection and storage of field notes, survey data, and other research materials;
• Working with the study data manager to ensure timely and accurate data collection
• and management; work with the study data manager to coordinate weekly
• reports/progress updates to the study team (including weekly calls)
• Communications, including organizing and participating in meetings (telephone conferences, Skype or in person meetings), and preparing weekly reports for the UCSF and Uganda PIs and Research Director and study team;
• Managing a budget, including tracking expenses and overseeing preparation of invoices in communication with finance officers at IDRC and UCSF; and
• Administration, including development and ongoing updating of standard operating protocols, manuals of operations, management of human subjects’ approvals (including modifications and renewals), and preparation of reports;
• Managing regulatory submissions and compliance with the IDRC regulatory director oversight
• Dissemination of results: assist the P.I.s with preparation of findings for local dissemination of findings to community stakeholders, and plan and oversee community stakeholder meetings for such dissemination; and assist with production of abstracts, manuscripts, reports and presentations, as needed.
Qualifications and other desirables for the job
• Bachelor’s degree in public health, population studies or related field. A Master’s Degree in the same field will be an added advantage
• Nursing or clinical experience, especially in the areas of women’s health, reproductive health, OBGYN, and/or family planning will be highly valuable
• At least 2-3 year of prior experience managing research projects, preferably multisite research projects, including budget management, team management, oversight of field-based activities across Uganda
• Experience managing multi-site projects and data collections including work with health centers and MOH clinics across various regions of Uganda. National level coordination experience is an advantage
• Educational training and experience with qualitative research methods and writing experience is highly valuable
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications with proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint; and web-based applications including Zoom. Experience with qualitative analyses software or quantitative software are an added advantage.
• Experience and ability to independently represent the research team and PIs at meetings, and with internal and external stakeholders
• Excellent written and oral communications skills
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
