Starting date : January 2022
Duty station : ( Karamoja- Amudat)
Reports to : Associate Project Manager

In Uganda, ZOA has offices in Kampala, West Nile (Arua), Acholi (Nwoya), and Karamoja (Amudat). ZOA Uganda works both in relief and recovery on the themes of food security & livelihoods, WASH, primary/accelerated/vocational education, and conflict management with a special focus on land security.

Project Coordinator – Livelihoods Diversification for Amudat

About the position
The Project Coordinator, with support from the Associate Project Manager, is responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing the activities of Livelihood Diversification project in Amudat

Project specific details:
The Project Coordinator (Horticulture & apiary) will take the lead in identifying, coordinating and supporting linkages between progressive horticulture farmers with input dealers, produce buyers, market and financial institutions. S/he will:
• Support horticulture Market Ready Farmers (MRF) to improve their entrepreneurial skills;
• Build the capacity of producer and Marketing Associations (PMAs) to collectively bring their produce together to create economies of scale, improve their bargaining power and attract big buyers/input suppliers

• Coach, mentors, strengthen and motivate farmers and support them to transition (graduate) from ‘group based’ type of production (near-subsistence type production) to individual and market-oriented production.

Place in organization
The PC Livelihoods fulfills a technical role within the Livelihoods project and reports to the Associate Project Manager. They support other project team members and community volunteers in implementation.

Main activities
Responsibilities and main activities
• Implements project activities in relation to the project proposal to achieve optimal project outputs and outcomes in line with ZOA/donor procedures and targets;
• Contribute to project planning and provide detailed written activity plans;
• Support supervisor to timely purchase requisition of project goods/services.

Technical support and innovation
• Actively participate in (technical) working groups and coordination meetings

• Provide technical support and build capacity of other staff for quality implementation of project activities;
• Make suggestions for improvements and innovations in the project, based on evidence, learning and findings;
• Strengthens the culture of innovativeness among the field staff;
• Participate in new project development and sharing ideas, as requested.

Documentation and reporting, MEAL
• Provide inputs to implementation plans and activity/monthly reports;
• Identify, document lessons learned and best practices;
• Prepare and submit well written success stories;
• Contribute to any other project reports;
• Organize monitoring and data recording systems of activities in the project in coordination with MEAL colleagues, and ensure timely data collection and entering in ZOAM for easy retrieval.

Characteristics of Role
The PC will be based at the ZOA office in Amudat. Regular field visits to the project locations/other districts in the region are anticipated, which may necessitate overnight stays. Visits to other ZOA programme locations may also be requested for coordination, training and learning.

The role is 1.0 FTE (40 hrs/ week). Working hours are outlined in the ZOA Uganda Conditions of Service. Some flexibility on working hours may be required, e.g. for travel at weekends, or during reporting times.
The role is recruited at Grade 4 in the ZOA Uganda 2022 salary scale

Competencies
Knowledge & Experience:
• Degree or diploma in Agriculture or other related relevant field;
• At least 3 years successful experience in a similar position, specific experience in supporting market linkages within livelihoods projects is required;
• Experience in implementing projects in pastoralist community and specifically in Karamoja is an added advantage;
• Understanding of the local context, culture, and languages is an added value;
• Excellent spoken and written command of English.

Skills:
• Good communication, writing and facilitation skills;
• Innovative, creative and enthusiastic;
• Good computer skills: Ms Excel and Ms Word;
• Self-motivator, able to work with limited supervision;
• Able to ride a motorbike in field conditions, holding a valid driving license.
