Job Description


Save the Children is seeking job applications for a Project Manager-Local Nutrition Solutions. The Project Manager (PM) is responsible and accountable for effective and efficient planning of the Local Nutrition Solutions project (Innovation Norway funding). The Local Nutrition Solutions Project is a two-year project, part of the Response Innovation Lab Uganda portfolio that focuses on sourcing and testing innovative solutions to reduce malnutrition among refugees and host communities. It includes two field-testing locations: Rhino and Kyaka II settlements.

The PM will provide strategic and operational leadership to planning and implementation of the project, manage performance of the project, ensure regular liaison with project partners and strategic stakeholders (including the donor) and supervise implementation of activities by partners, with support from the RIL Manager. H/She will ensure the creative implementation of the innovation project, adherence to overall technical and programmatic quality in implementation, compliance with donor rules and regulations, and the timely and quality submission of all deliverables.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

To be successful for this role, you will have/bring the following:

Qualification

  • Bachelor of Science in Food Technology or Food Technology & Nutrition or Food Science & Technology (or Master of Science degree an advantage). Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree in public health/nutrition, international development, business administration or related studies will be considered if the candidate demonstrates additional relevant experience.
  • 5 years’ experience in an incubator, a start-up, social enterprise, innovation space and/or project management I/NGO experience
  • Experience in business administration or project management
  • The incumbent will need to demonstrate either expertise in all or several of the following fields: nutrition, food technology/food science, innovation-management, partnership-management.

Essential

  • A team player and self-starter with good networking skills and project management skills
  • Eagerness to build partnerships and projects outside of traditional humanitarian field and to challenge traditional ways of working
  • Experience working with and managing innovation projects
  • Understanding of the refugee response context in Uganda
  • Knowledge of issues connected to chronic malnutrition (agriculture, health, wash, behaviors, economic dynamics)
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Capable of working independently
  • Demonstrated experience in building excellent relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including at refugee settlement levels
  • Excellent commination skill and able to synthetize information from various sources
  • Good oral/written and interpersonal skills
  • Confident communication and documentation skills; ability to represent the lab to a variety of stakeholders in a range of forums
  • Able to work on a cross-cultural environment with multi-national staff.
  • A commitment to humanitarian and Response Innovation Lab principles and values
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft office tools (PowerPoint, Excel, word, etc.)

 

Desireable

  • Basic understanding of digital innovations, new technology, entrepreneurship skills
  • Good understanding of innovation and the issues and challenges around it
  • Experience working in the private sector and with start-ups
  • Able to produce high quality reports/papers.
