Job Description
In this role, you will support the scoping, development, and implementation of Ocean Watch within the Resource Watch platform, prioritizing features based on user research and stakeholder engagement, developing technical Requests for Proposals (RfPs), managing day-to-day interactions with web vendors, and ensuring timely and high-quality delivery of features, among other tasks. There may be opportunities to conduct research on key ocean topics and develop written content (e.g., blog posts) for the site.
This is a full-time, term-limited, benefits-eligible position with an end date of September 30, 2021. There is potential for a position extension based on project funding and availability.
Job Responsibilities
Ocean Watch Product Design and Development (75%)
- Manage the design and development of Ocean Watch, in coordination with the Oceans team, Resource Watch team and external partners
- Serve as the liaison between the Ocean team, the Ocean Data Manager and the Resource Watch team to ensure efficient and high-quality development of Ocean Watch within the Resource Watch platform and product roadmap
- Conduct user research and usability testing – Manage day-to-day interaction with external web vendors, set priorities and keep deadlines
- Develop RfPs when needed for solicitation of technical vendors, evaluate vendor proposals in accordance with WRI’s procurement guidelines
- Maintain the product backlog and prioritize features based on user needs, stakeholder input, and the Resource Watch product development roadmap
- Ensure that the vision and theory of change for Ocean Watch is reflected in the web development for the platform
- Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation
- Assist in the development of Ocean Watch dashboards and blog posts, as needed
- Provide trainings and give presentations, as needed Resource Watch Product Support (25%)
- Provide support on the design and development activities for the core Resource Watch platform
- Support the tracking of key user metrics through Google Analytics
- Help coordinate user research initiatives
- Support the collection, organization, and prioritization of user feedback and requests in the product backlog
- Support bug reporting and testing
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field
- Minimum two years of experience managing technical products, including a familiarity with agile/scrum development processes
- Excellent communication and organization skills
- Ability to turn incomplete, conflicting, or ambiguous inputs into solid action plans
- Ability to troubleshoot, offer ideas, and find creative solutions
- Passion for continued learning and improvement
- Interest in working for a mission-driven environmental organization
- Valid work authorization for the UK
