Job Description
Responsible for providing strategic leadership to the overall project construction execution for major projects. Responsible for execution of the field activities and changes to the plan as required, to meet schedule and cost goals of the project. Responsible for safety, quality, client interface, construction operations, cost, and schedule, which includes the major risk component – labor productivity.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Ensure that the National Content Plan is followed by all parties (McDermott and Subcontractors).
- Managing the training and advancement of local employees and ensuring that knowledge of the company’s policies and procedures are included.
- Directs all aspects of field operations for project planning and field execution.
- Manages the contract with the client.
- Leader in the development of a construction HSSE culture that makes safety and environment a natural part of the job.
- Front line business manager and understanding of contract requirements.
- Visit different site locations of the project and evaluates site conditions and extraordinary requirements.
- Ensure each direct report has a full understanding of expectations, how they are to be performed in accordance with the Project Execution Plan, and other information pertinent to construction execution, and lead team to deliver a successful project.
- Report progress to McDermott senior and executive management during the regular Project Management Review Meetings.
- Accountable for the direction, coordination, and performance of all on-site construction operations; including field management, quality, safety, material management, procurement, construction engineering, human resources, business services, industrial relations, and facility turnover.
- Coordinate and interface with others as required to execute the construction plan and assure that labor, equipment, and materials are available to support the construction effort.
- Assure construction work is performed within the budget and schedule constraints of the projects.
- Advise management of developments that could affect project profit, schedule, costs, client relations, and interdepartmental or inter-divisional relations.
- Manage scope of work by identifying change conditions or work outside of scope.
- Training and experience in managing on-site safety and personnel issues.
Essential Qualifications and Education:
- Degree in an appropriate discipline or commensurate experience.
- Minimum of 25-year construction experience
- Minimum of 20- years of direct construction management experience of which at least 15-years must have been on large oil and gas projects in excess of $1b
- Experience in managing multiple subcontractors and a multi-cultural workforce
- Experience in transitioning oil and as projects from mechanical completion through to commissioning and handover
- Strong communication skills, both written and spoken
- Strong interpersonal skills and stakeholder management
