About US:
The Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC) is a non-profit research organization. IDRC conducts research in infectious diseases including Malaria, HIV and Tuberculosis. Our studies have led to over 300 publications and have impacted on the management of infectious diseases in Uganda. IDRC currently manages over 41 Grants with an annual budget of $11 million. IDRC was established in May 2008 by Ugandan health scientists from Makerere University College of Health Sciences, University of California, San Francisco and the Uganda Ministry of Health.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Management of the overall daily operation of the study clinics including overseeing all recruitment and follow up of study participants and data management activities
- Coordination of staff ensuring the study clinic is open Mon-Sun 00am to 5.00pm including weekend coverage
- Supervising clinicians, home visitors, clinic manager, and the lab coordinator
- Conduct patient evaluations including screening interviews, initial and follow up visits
- Provide obstetric care to enrolled participants including conducting cesarean sections whenever needed.
- Ensure accurate and proper completion on enrollment activities, including informed consenting procedures
- Facilitating and monitoring of scheduling, follow up, including auditing of case report forms
- Ensuringproper daily laboratory operations including specimens orrectly labeled, sent for processing, follow up on laboratory results and transfer to study forms
- Review and correct study forms for accuracy and completion daily
- Communication with Masafu Hospital staff regarding clinic referrals or hospitalization of study patients if needed
- Take lead in AE reporting activities
- Manage study funds related to supplies and participant reimbursement
- Communicate regularly with project leaders about study progress and issues through regular conference calls (must be comfortable using email regularly)
- Conducting regular study staff meetings
- Maintaining good communication between the study team and Masafu Hospital administration
Key Result Areas/Outputs
- Number of participants correctly enrolled
- Adverse events properly identified, managed, and reported in time
- Number laboratory results entered in the case record forms
- Adequate coverage of the study clinic
- Attending/conducting study meetings
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal applicant must be fully registered with the Uganda Dental and Medical Practitioner’sCouncil and must have a valid annual practicing license
- Experience working in an Obstetrics and Gynecology setting and ability to makeobstetric care decisions independently and conducting cesarean sections
- Good computer, communication and interpersonal skills
- At least two years progressive work experience in a research setting especially in HIV and malaria research will be an added advantage
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team and fast paced environment
- Candidate must have great attention to detail, high levels of confidentiality And integrity
