Job Description


University of Kisubi (Unik) is a Chartered University owned by the Registered Trustees of the Uganda Brothers of Christian Instruction. The University, which is located 24 km from Kampala along Kampala- Entebbe Highway, seeks to fill the following vacancies in its licensed School of Nursing and Midwifery:

Nurse Tutor – One (1) Position

The Nurse Tutor at the University of Kisubi School of Nursing and Midwifery will be responsible for training and mentoring nursing students. He/she will deliver educational programmes, provide clinical instruction, assess student progress, and ensure that nursing trainees meet professional. standards. The Nurse Tutor at the University of Kisubi will bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical skills, preparing students for clinical practice and exams.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  1. Minimum of a Bachelor of Nursing with a Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Education or Bachelor of Medical Education with a Practicing License for Tutorship from the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council
  2. A Diploma in Nursing
  3. Certificate of Registration from the Ministry of Education and Sports
  4. At least two (2) years of working experience in health teaching in a reputable organisation.
  5. Fully registered with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council and holding a valid practising license.

Midwifery Tutor – One (1) Position

The Midwifery Tutor will be a specialized educator to train and mentor midwifery students, ensuring they gain the knowledge and skills needed for safe and effective maternal care. The Midwifery Tutor will be responsible for delivering lectures/lessons, providing hands-on clinical training, and assessing student competencies. Working in collaboration with other tutors, the Midwifery Tutor will bridge theory and practice, preparing students for midwifery certification and professional practice.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  1. Minimum of a Bachelor of Midwifery/Nursing with a Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Education or Bachelor of Medical Education with a Practicing License for Tutorship from the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council.
  2. A Diploma in Midwifery
  3. Certificate of Registration from the Ministry of Education and Sports
  4. At least two (2) years of working experience in health teaching in a reputable organisation.
  5. Fully registered with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council and holding a valid practising license.

Personal Attributes and Competences for the Tutorship Positions

  1. An impeccable track record and a very high level of moral integrity and professional ethics in nursing education.
  2. Ability to work under pressure, be innovative, and deliver positive results under minimum supervision.
  3. Willingness to listen and attend to students’ queries.
  4. Ability to build and work in a team.
  5. Ability to develop and sustain healthy working networks both within and outside the University.

Clinical Instructor (Resident) – One (1) Position

The Clinical Instructor shall be responsible for training and mentoring nursing students. He/she will deliver educational programmes, provide clinical instruction, assess student progress, and ensure that nursing trainees meet professional standards.

The Nurse Tutor at the University of Kisubi will bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical skills, preparing students for clinical practice and exams. Strong communication, leadership, and teaching skills are essential for this role.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  1. A Diploma in Nursing, with a Diploma in Clinical Teaching or Mentorship.
  2. At least two (2) years of working experience in the same role in a reputable health organisation.
    Fully registered with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council and holding a valid practising license.

Personal Attributes and Competences

  1. Possession of clinical expertise and competence, including strong knowledge of procedures, patient care, and critical thinking skills.
  2. Effective communication to effectively explain complex concepts.
  3. Strong leadership and mentorship abilities to help inspire students, promote professionalism and foster an ethical learning environment.
  4. Adaptability, critical thinking, and professionalism.

Female Warden – One (1) Position

The Female Warden will be responsible for ensuring student well-being, discipline, and a safe living environment, particularly in the halls of residence.

She will oversee accommodation facilities, enforce rules, provide counselling, and support students’ academic and personal development. Additionally, she will coordinate with tutors, School and University administration, manage health and emergency protocols in consultation with the University Nurse, and foster a positive and professional atmosphere for future nurses and midwives.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  1. A minimum of Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE).
  2. Certificate or Diploma in Education is an added advantage.
  3. Additional training or certification in either
    Hospitality and/or Guidance and Counselling.
  4. At least three (3) years of working experience in a similar position in a reputable health or education institution.

Personal Attributes and Competences

  1. Empathetic, patient and understanding of student diverse learning and social needs.
  2. Knowledge of key student support services and an awareness of the role of a warden.
  3. A demonstrable commitment to upholding the School’s and University’s commitment to quality
  4. Evidence of effective communication with diverse groups of people.
