We are looking for a dynamic. enthusiastic, committed and highly talented individual for the role of Tax Compliance and Consulting- Senior Associate (3) for our Uganda office
Role Summary:
The successful candidates will be responsible for managing tax engagements, providing tax advisory services to clients, and assisting in developing tax strategies that comply with regulatory requirements. They will need to have a good understanding of Uganda’s tax laws and regulations to determine their implications on clients, stay abreast of proposed legislation; review client policies and practices to confirm their alignment with tax legislation; analyse and review client dato to identify inconsistencies, discrepancies, and omissions and propose solutions.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
• Prepare and review tax returns, ensuring accurate and timely filling in accordance with statutory deadlines.
• Handle complex tax compliance matters, including VAT, PAYE, Withholding Tax, and Income Tax issues.
• Provide tax planning and consulting services to clients on various matters, including tax optimization, restructuring, and transfer pricing
• Represent clients during tax audits, disputes, investigations, and negotiations working with the supervisor to resolve queries with tax authorities.
• Drafting technically correct opinions and reports for the supervisor to review.
• Involvement in consulting and advising clients on a wide range of tax issues, preparation of tax calculations and returns on behalf of clients.
• Prepare high-quality draft reports for engagements undertaken.
• Stay updated with changes in tax laws and regulations, adjusting strategies and advising clients accordingly.
• Supervise and mentor junior associates, reviewing their work and providing feedback to ensure accuracy and compliance.
The ideal candidates should have:
• Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Commerce, Economics, Business Administration. or a related field.
• Specific academic qualification in Taxation, eg., CTA, Advanced Diploma or PODITRA Pursuing a professional certification such as CPA or ACCA is preferred.
• A minimum of 3-4 years of relevant experience.
• Sound knowledge of accounting.
• Sound knowledge of Tax laws such as Income Tax Act, Customs Act, VAT Act, etc.
• Expertise knowledge of URA tools and E-Tax System.
• Experience handling URA audits.
• Good exposure in Tax Health Check, Tax opinion
