Job Description


Work Location: Hariss International Limited – Kampala, Uganda

Division / Department: Maintenance

Reports to: Maintenance Team Leader

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Fabricating new machines and cable trays which carry cables to supply power to different machines.
  • Ensuring that stainless pipes in the plant are in good condition i.e. not leaking, well supported
  • Performing general maintenance work in areas where gasket seals are replaced and areas that require welding.
  • Performing insulation of cold pipes from chillers and the hot pipes from the Boilers.
  • Conducting modification on Borehole lines to ensure they are of good quality.
  • Welding shafts
  • Performs any other task as per management request.

 

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: 

 

  • A minimum of a Diploma degree or certificate in metal fabrication, welding, and mechanical engineering or any other relevant discipline.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role in a busy environment.

 

Key Requirements: 

 

  • At least 2-3 years hands-on in the Food Industry. Beverage manufacturing plant is a distinct advantage.
  • Familiar with Carbonated Soft Drinks and/or water treatment plant.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices

Reports to:       Maintenance Team Leader Utilities

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • General Management & Supervision of the Utilities department.
  • Direct Reporting to the Maintenance Manager over all issues from the section.
  • Responsible for Periodic and Preventive Maintenance planning for all department Machinery in liaison with the Maintenance Manager and oversee the plan execution.
  • To oversee and coordinate Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Good Health Practices (GHPs)within the department.
  • Coordinate the team for teamwork in quick problem troubleshooting and rectification to minimize machine downtime and ensure Maximum Efficiency.
  • Coordinate the team to ensure Energy Conservation to minimize costs and maximize profits.
  • Coordinate the team to ensure Documentation and all department Record keeping.
  • To identify the necessary trainings required by the department Staff and liaison with the Maintenance Manager for Implementation.

 

OUTPUTS AND EXPECTED RESULTS

 

  • Maintain, repair, and optimize plant and associated devices: Locate plant,    equipment,    spares and relevant documentation/ systems. Plan, and prepare the job, Carry out repairs/ maintenance. Continuously   improve   (optimize)   plant, process equipment and systems
  • Optimize production performance: Interpret and implement the production plan for the shift. Measure and record performance attributes, Optimise usage of resources support the team to improve process quality Facilitate team problem solving
  • Operate Utilities plant and equipment Prepare for plant start-up Start-up plant Run the plant Shut down the plant Execute cleaning of plant Complete all documentation Control inputs usage Ensure plant is in working order Maintain safe and healthy work environment
  • Work in teams Communicate effectively in the workplace Contribute to self and team development
  • Apply the Manufacturing Way principles and practices Apply  5S  standards  and  practices  in  the workplace
  • Work and communicate effectively in teams, Operate and control the process according to SOP’s, Conduct autonomous maintenance, Manage quality at source, Improve personal competence and flexibility, Maintain    safe and    healthy    work environment
  • Maintain a safe and healthy working environment Comply with safe, health and environmental procedures and legislation Maintain safety and housekeeping standards.

Other duties

  • Support the overall Utilities team initiatives and arrangements.
  • Supporting the Utilities Specialist in leveraging Prosper initiatives in the department.
  • Any other duties assigned by the Utilities Specialist

 

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS AND MEASURES:

 

  • Production Performance: Utilities efficiencies, Wastage (Usages),Steam Generation, Compressed air generation
  • Problem Solving: Completed 5 Why’s
  • Team Work: Develop a team spirit with his/her colleagues and superiors such that work goes on smoothly.
  • Health, Safety and Environment, Adherence to PPE policiesIdentification of unsafe practices, Safe maintenance practices audited, Maintenance tools are in good working order, Safety of personnel and equipment to be ensured.
  • Any hazardous/risky situations to be reported immediately to his/her immediate supervisor.
  • Manufacturing Way: Manufacturing Way implementation and anchoring supported, GHP/GMP work practices, Generate necessary records and reports in logs timeously and accurately.
  • Wastage to be kept to a minimum as per budget. All Utilities Material stores to be kept neat and 5s applied.General Utilities housekeeping

 

DECISION MAKING POWERS AND AUTHORITIES

To what extent does the jobholder have freedom to make certain decisions? Does the jobholder operate within policies, procedures or standards? Can the jobholder change any of the criteria without having to get permission first?

There are company policies, procedures and standards that the jobholder must strictly adhere to. However, the jobholder sets personal goals and action plans that are approved by the Utilities Specialist

  • Maintain the equipment according to good maintenance practice.
  • Assess proper functioning of working machinery and request for repair or replacement in case of need.
  • Assess the nature of repair on a working machine depending on the nature of defect as a quick fix, replacement or major overhaul.
  • Negotiate stoppage of machines with line team leaders to avoid more unnecessary downtime and equipment damage.
  • Stop the machine if it appears to endanger the safety of the operational team. If the stoppage is longer than 30 minutes, the technician must inform the Utilities Team leader of the problem.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards in his area of operation.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of a Certificate in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering or any relevant discipline.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role in a busy environment.
  • Should be knowledgeable on high voltage systems, troubleshooting electric panels.
  • Work experience in power generation with diesel generators/transformers.
  • Basic knowledge on pumps, chillers, boilers and air compressors.
  • Good reporting skills.
