Job Description


The accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate, timely, and compliant financial records within the assigned accounting area of the company. The role supports the Chief Accountant in ensuring that all accounting operations adhere to Ugandan regulations, IFRS standards, and the Holding’s internal accounting and tax policies. The accountant processes financial transactions, prepares accounting and tax reports, manages document archiving, and ensures that data integrity and financial discipline are consistently upheld. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and capable of managing multiple financial tasks efficiently and accurately.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate and complete accounting records within the assigned accounting area in compliance with Ugandan law, IFRS standards, and the Company’s approved Accounting Policy.
  • Manage all financial transactions including accounts payable, receivable, payroll processing, and general ledger entries, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Process and verify source documents (invoices, receipts, payment requests, etc.), ensuring timely receipts, proper completion, and compliance with contractual and legal requirements.
  • Prepare accounting, tax, and management reports for the assigned accounting area and ensure timely submission to the Chief Accountant.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, i.e. income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, ensuring accuracy and alignment with Holding and Company standards.
  • Conduct reconciliations of bank statements, supplier accounts, and other financial records to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
  • Support tax compliance by preparing tax returns, ensuring timely filing, and maintaining proper supporting documentation in accordance with local tax laws.
  • Participate in internal and external audits, ensuring that all supporting documentation is available and accurate.
  • Maintain proper storage, archiving, and electronic scanning of accounting documents in accordance with Holding and Company regulations.
  • Assist in the development of internal controls and participate in the implementation of corrective and preventive measures to strengthen financial discipline.
  • Provide reliable financial information and data to management and other departments of the Holding or Company upon request.
  • Support the budgeting and forecasting process by providing accurate accounting data and insights.
  • Issue financial certificates or statements to employees or third parties as required by law or internal procedures.
  • Stay informed about updates in accounting standards, Ugandan tax legislation, and Holding regulations to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Perform additional accounting-related tasks as assigned by the Chief Accountant to meet departmental goals and objectives.

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Accuracy Rate: Percentage of error-free accounting entries, reports, and reconciliations within the assigned area.
  • Timeliness of Reporting: Adherence to deadlines for submission of reports, tax filings, and reconciliations.
  • Compliance Adherence: Compliance with IFRS standards, Ugandan tax laws, and Holding’s accounting procedures.
  • Audit Preparedness: Quality and completeness of documentation prepared for audits and reviews.
  • Process Efficiency: Level of automation, workflow improvement, and reduction of repetitive tasks in accounting processes.
  • Cash Flow Management: Timely and accurate reconciliations that support healthy cash flow management.
  • Cost Control: Contribution to financial discipline and cost-efficiency through error prevention and process improvements.
  • Data Integrity: Accuracy, completeness, and security of financial data and archived documents.
  • Collaboration: Quality and timeliness of support provided to the Chief Accountant, auditors, and other departments.
  • Professional Growth: Commitment to continuous learning and pursuit of professional certifications or training in accounting and finance.

Requirements

 Education & Qualifications

IT& Technical Jobs

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Commerce, or Business Administration.
  • Professional certification or progress toward ACCA, CPA, or equivalent is strongly preferred.
