Job Description


EarthEnable’s Architectural Engineer will have a unique opportunity to work with the CEO and Chief Innovation Officer to shape the future of rural healthy housing. He or she will have a team of 2-3 people and collaborate with various expert consultants to manage a diverse range of design and engineering workstreams. This will include designing a rural home that is both affordable but customizable to customer needs, identifying ways to continuously reduce costs of structural elements, and designing and urban planning full settlements in alignment with the Government of Rwanda’s rural settlement policy.

Specific responsibilities of the role will include:
• Maintaining and updating EarthEnable’s digital housing and settlement design portfolio to factor in customer needs, space optimization, and ideal living conditions.
• Developing new earthen products and improving upon current products that fit with our portfolio, our market segment and customer demand.
• Providing expert technical assistance to the in-house project team, franchisees and others in the customization, cost estimation and delivery of housing products for rural and peri-urban families.
• Building EarthEnable’s full range of housing prototypes into the Revit platform with material specifications, cost data and a catalog of customizable elements.
• Preparing design iterations and bill of quantities in response to client requests and/or in support of EarthEnable’s marketing mission.
• Using pre-designed housing elements, making settlement plans, designs and engineering (structures and infrastructure).
• Training core technical staff in the use of EarthEnable’s digital housing catalog.
• Conducting life-cycle analysis of our products to ascertain the impact our products have on the environment.

Qualifications of our candidate
• Minimum of 2 years work experience, ideally at an architecture or engineering firm.
• Significant expertise in Autodesk softwares (CAD, Revit,Lumion etc.)
• Learns on the go and can figure things out.
• Desire to live and work in rural East Africa for several years; native to East Africa strongly preferred, but experience living and working in a developing country is a must. Willing to travel across the continent.
• Ability to manage multiple work streams and quickly learn new skills.
• Passion for developing skills in engineering, architecture, and associated technologies in teammates.
• Positive attitude, self-starter, entrepreneurial spirit, sense of humor, and willingness to learn new things.
