About Us: Kyagalanyi Coffee Ltd. [KCL) is a member of the Volcafe group, the coffee division of ED&F Man. It is the oldest and largest coffee exporter in Uganda and the first to become ISO 9001:2008 certified. We buy Arabica and Robusta in all coffee producing regions and export about 15% of Uganda’s coffee production to over 30 consuming countries around the world. The company heavily invests in Uganda’s coffee infrastructure and people. Our quality oriented business strategy aims to lift up the entire coffee sector and improve the quality perception of Ugandan Arabica and Robusta around the globe.
We currently have openings in several exciting positions across our business with our Mt. Elgon Team.
Assistant Quality Manager
The Quality Department at KCL is at the heart of our business and provides an interface across all internal departments and external stakeholders. It is an extremely busy, fast paced and interesting team to be a part. The role of the Assistant Quality Manager provides leadership and guidance for the department as well as overseeing and executing several tasks within the function. The successful candidate for this role will have completed their UCDA training as well as having commenced or completed their QorR Grader training.

Main Responsibilities:

• Procurement of coffee: The Asst. QM takes charge of receiving, analysing buying and or rejecting coffee
• In this role you will oversee and proactively manage internal analysis documentation for internal and external use.

• The Assistant QM leads on the preparation of coffee samples and liaises closely with the Trade department as well as the Logistics function.
• The role takes the lead on preparing cupping sessions and monitoring quality of coffee received from units across Uganda providing timely feedback as and when required including preparing regular management reports.
• In this role the post holder will take an active role in mentoring and supervising the Quality Team carrying out regular performance reviews and training needs analysis to ensure the team is developing and has the ability to carry out their roles as effectively as possible.

Key skills and qualifications:

• You must be educated to at least diploma level in a relevant field, as well as having had experience within the Coffee industry in a similar role and at a similar level.
• You must have completed the basic UCDA trainings as well as having completed or already part way through completing Q or R Grader qualifications.
• You must have effective communication skills, both written and verbal and the ability to handle multiple tasks all with an attention to fine detail.
• You must hold strong Microsoft Office skills including Excel, Word, Outlook and Power Point You must be numeric and be able to demonstrate an understanding of basic numeracy/ accountancy practices
