• Excellent technical skills in writing, editing, data and information analysis capabilities, and developing and formatting proposal documents.
• Demonstrable experience and competency in lead generation.
• Extensive networking capability/experience.
• Possesses a high curiosity quotient.
• Strong, articulate judgment and ability to make well-reasoned decisions.
• Possesses clout and skill of persuasion.
• Plausible knowledge of business IT systems.
• Multilingual capability is desirable

Responsibilities
Job Purpose:
The Business Development and Credit Officer (BDCO) shall secure new business and follow up on the regular flow of incoming leads and client prospects. Beyond the sales function, she/he shall develop business opportunities and create strategic partnerships on behalf of the employer.

Scope of duties: The BDCO shall collaborate with all SACCO business units to execute new business strategies. This includes upholding existing business and developing new projects and concepts, turning opportunities into winning contracts and exploring and activating new business ideas, partnerships, and capabilities for the employer

Reporting Lines: The BDCO directly reports to the CEO.
Extent of authority: The BDCO has direct supervision over subordinates in the unit and determines workload and task allocation. All transactions of a financial nature are handled according to the employer’s authorization matrix of approval limits.

Business Development Duties
• Maintain an overview of pipelines to prioritize winning potential business, contracts, or bids.
• Secure new opportunities by identifying and building relationships with new/potential clients (e.g., trading and development partners, development financing institutions, government agencies, and private businesses) with the aim of increasing the employer’s partner, customer, and client base.
Take the lead in analyzing information on lessons learned from Expressions of Interest (EOI), proposals, searches, bidding, and tendering initiatives.
• Expand the SACCO’s network of strategic alliances, development partners, trading partners, and associates by identifying them for future reference.
• Keep tabs on the industry market trends and carry out competitor intelligence by systematically gathering information regarding partnerships, customers, clients, and business strategies.

Credit, Risk, and Asset Management Duties
• Appraise Asset Acquisition and development proposals
• Ensure proper understanding of loans, asset financing, price sensitivities, and applicable work-out scenarios in the event of default.
• Appraise loan applications and forward them for further endorsement and disbursement
• Ensure ongoing credit monitoring through identification and assessment of all pertinent risk areas together with timely mitigating factors
• Augment and maintain the employer’s excellent customer service delivery.

Qualifications
• Business-related bachelor’s degree (majoring in Marketing/Finance)

Details of experience
• At least 3 years of work experience in business development and marketing in a professional services environment.
• Experience in financial services or a SACCO background is an added advantage.
• Flexibility to travel for field work shall be required.
