JOB DETAILS:

Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, its mandate is to take a leading role in establishing a comprehensive National Animal Breeding Programme in Uganda, wishes to recruit the following;
Job Title: In-Charge Laboratory/Laboratory Technician
No. of Vacancy: 02
Starting date: immediately
Duration of commitment: 3 years Contract
Salary Expectation: Attractive
Location: Headquarters- Entebbe
Reporting to: Sire Stud Manager
Age Limit: 25-45 Years

Overall Job Purpose

To head or coordinate activities of all Centre laboratories including their performance and ascertaining conformity to universally accepted norms of quality, hygiene and safety; and standard operating procedures.

Specific Responsibilities

Plans and budgets for laboratory activities of NAGRC&DB, Develops for approval the standards of laboratory practice in all Centre laboratories, Supervises the performance of tests on samples of imported genetic material or that generated locally to inform reproductive and breeding initiatives, Establishes quality control programs for the testing or analysis of laboratory samples and specimens in line with internationally accepted standards, Tests new and improved laboratory methods and procedures and modifies Standard Operating [SOPsI Manuals as necessary, Participates in laboratory testing and prepares notes, charts, graphs and results of examinations, Supervises the maintenance of accurate record of laboratory investigations. Enforces health and safety protocols and procedures and consults with other Supervisors over related issues, Coordinates the preparation of procurement plans for NAGRC&DB laboratories that include equipment, reference material, chemicals and reagents, Organizes and participates in or supervises the calibration of equipment and execution of scheduled preventive maintenance or other laboratory equipment repairs, Deploys, supervises. mentors and appraises laboratory Staff and Any other duties assigned by the immediate Supervisor

Basic Requirements

• A degree in Laboratory Science, Laboratory Practice or equivalent discipline from a recognized academic institution.
• A post graduate Diploma in Bio-technology or any field relevant to animal reproduction and breeding from a recognized institution is an added advantage.
• Should he computer literate.
• Should be of integrity with well-developed analytical, organizational and communication skills.
• Should possess good skills at laboratory basic equipment maintenance.
• Working experience of at least three (3} years with a practical exposure to Laboratory practice gained from a reputable institution.
