Job Description


Job Purpose
The position holder will undertake communication and engagement activities for studies on Controlled Human Infection with Schistosomiasis (CHI-S). Ensure an excellent communication with strong attention to detail. Assist with additional Communication and Engagement activities as required by the Head of Theme, Vaccine Research Theme.

Roles & Responsibilities
• Collaborate with the Department of Communications and Engagement, to develop and implement the CHI-S project communications and engagement strategy based on the target audience;
• Support CHI-S project activities and stakeholder events;
• Draft and edit materials for CHI-S engagement and communication activities (press releases, social media posts, publications);
• Write, edit and distribute content, including publications, press releases, website content, reports, speeches, and other marketing material that communicates the organization’s activities, studies and capabilities;
• Provide scheduled CHI-S project updates to stakeholders and partners including media;
• Track CHI-S media exposure;
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with journalists, and maintain a media database;
• Update CHI-S stakeholder, media lists and databases;
• Facilitate internal communication;
• Lead the timely development and dissemination of the CHI-S quarterly newsletter;
• Prepare reports and presentations;
• Maintain web content and CHI-S project social media platforms;
• Monitor the project’s coverage in the media, communications and other public engagements, and collate periodic analytics and metrics using the Unit’s KTE monitoring framework;
• Seek opportunities to enhance the reputation of CHI-S project, and coordinate publicity events as required;
• Support documentation through report writing, photography and videography and infographics; and,
• Contribute to other Communications and Engagement activities under guidance of the Project Leader, Head of Communications and Engagement, and the CHI-S Principal Investigator.

Person Specification
• Degree in Mass Communication or other relevant subject area from a reputable University;
• Minimum of at least 3 years in communications role;
• Understanding and experience of ethical storytelling;
• Experience of social media and platform management;
• Experience producing website content;
• Should possess excellent knowledge of writing for the web and using web Content Management Systems (CMS) such as Drupal, WordPress, etc;
• Ability to translate technical language and complex research into communications that a variety of audiences;
• Good skills in photography and/or videography;
• Desktop graphics software such as Adobe creative suite;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• Excellent command of English and widely spoken local languages;
• Writing and editing;
• Proficiency in relevant software and applications (including but not limited to MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint;
• Photography and videography;
• Events planning and management;
• Ability to work with a high level of independence;
• Ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
• Ability to prioritise, plan work and respond flexibly to unexpected changes or multiple demands;
• Ability to innovate and think creatively;
• Proactive;
• Outcome driven; and,
• High degree of professionalism.
