Job Description


Contract Type: Fixed Term
Location: Imvepi Refugee Settlement
Reports to: Food Security & Livelihood Program Officer

Job Purpose:
The Community-Based Facilitator (CBF) plays a vital role in supporting and empowering Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) groups and farmers in the community. Reporting to the Lead CBF, the CBF is responsible for providing guidance, training, and mentorship to VSLAs and farmers on various aspects of financial inclusion, agricultural practices, and market linkages.

Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Work Plan Preparation: Develop and submit monthly work plans to the Lead CBF, outlining activities and targets for VSLAs and farmers’ support.
2. VSLA Mentorship: Mentor VSLAs on effective meeting management, record keeping, loan approval, disbursement, and recovery procedures, ensuring compliance with rules and regulations.
Capacity Assessment: Conduct monthly capacity assessments and health checks for VSLAs, identifying areas for improvement and support.
4. Data Collection: Collect and compile monthly data from VSLAs, tracking their financial progress and performance.
Success Story Documentation: Document success stories of VSLAs and farmers, highlighting the positive impact of their efforts and achievements.
Agro-Inputs Distribution and Demonstration: Distribute agro-inputs to farmers and establish demonstration plots to showcase Good Agricultural and Agronomic Practices (GAAPs).
7. Farmer Training: Conduct training sessions for farmers, equipping them with essential knowledge on GAAPs, sustainable farming techniques, and improved market practices.
8. Market Information Provision: Provide farmers with up-to-date market information and linkages to enhance their marketing opportunities.
9. VSLA Registration Support: Support VSLAs in their registration process at the sub-county level, ensuring compliance with local regulations.
10. Monitoring and Evaluation: Actively participate in monitoring and evaluation activities, providing relevant data and insights to assess program effectiveness.
11. Perform Assigned Duties: Undertake any other duties as assigned by the Lead CBF to support the smooth functioning of the VSLA and agriculture programs.

Qualifications and Competencies:
• Minimum of a diploma or certificate in Development Studies, Social Sciences, Agriculture, or a related field. A secondary school certificate with more than 4 years relevant experience in similar position is also considered.
• At least 2 years of experience in community development, microfinance, or working with community-based organizations.
• Strong understanding of VSLA concepts and principles, including group dynamics and financial management.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with VSLA members and community stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to facilitate training sessions and capacity building for community groups.
• Knowledge of agriculture and rural livelihoods is an advantage.
• Proficiency in local languages spoken in the community is desirable.
• Commitment to community development, financial inclusion, and empowerment.
