Job Description


This position requires the holder to prepare food, salads, soups, fish, meats, vegetables, desserts, or other foods as per the designed menu by management. S/he is to maintain Uganda Country office: Kisugu Muyenga Ggaba Road, quality meals in accordance with food health and safety regulations and AHA standards.
The cook will follow instructions relating to the timely preparation of food, drinking water for the beneficiaries, organizing workstations, and assisting other cooks as needed, ensure that the refrigerators and storerooms are kept clean and tidy.

Duties/Responsibilities
• Compile and maintain records of food use and expenditures and make use of the recorded information to advise the Hostel Administrator on re-ordering stock of food supplies, kitchen equipment, and appliances, based on estimates of future needs.
• Apportion and serve food to patients and their caretakers during their stay at the medical hostel.
• Preparing and assembling ingredients for menu items.
• Preparing meals and food items in large quantities without compromising on quality.
• Preparing drinking water for patients and other medical hostel occupants.
• Storing food at the correct temperature in order to avoid spoilage.
• Ensuring that food portions and food presentation meet company standards.
• Ensuring that cooking utensils are clean before each use.
• Cleaning and sterilizing food preparation areas.
• Assisting other cooks to ensure that food preparations are completed in a timely manner.
• Ensuring that food health and safety regulations are followed.
• Promote health and safety in relation to maintaining hygiene by cleaning in and round the food preparation areas as may be called for from time to time as well as sterilizing any areas that may require so.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Sound knowledge of cooking methods and techniques.
• Proven experience working as a Cook.
• Ability to follow recipes.
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to work with others or in a team.
