Job Description


The Northern Uganda Resilience Initiative (NURI) is one of three engagements under the Uganda Programme on Sustainable and Inclusive Development of the Economy (UPSIDE), which is a thematic programme of the Danish Country Programme for Uganda 2018-2022. NURI will pursue enhanced resilience and equitable economic development in Northern Uganda, including for refugees and host communities, by supporting Climate Smart Agriculture, Rural Infrastructure, and Water Resources Management for 4 years from 2019 to 2022.
Geographically NURI covers 12 districts in Northern Uganda, namely; Arua, Madi Okollo, Pakwach, Nebbi, Zombo, Koboko Moyo, Obongi and Adjumani in West Nile sub region – and Agago, Kitgum and Lamwo in the Acholi Sub
Regions. A coordination function (CF) has been established to oversee and coordinate the implementation of NURI. NURI CF seeks to hire highly qualified, dedicated and experienced nationals for the position of driver.
Duty station: Kampala with regular travel to NURI programme implementation districts.
Reports to: Senior Driver CF
Position Summary: The driver will drive authorized passengers, transport goods and services (information) and check the mechanical condition of NURI-CF vehicle regularly and act accordingly in line with NURI policies. .

Major responsibilities:
1. Ensure daily routine maintenance checks of the vehicle.
2. Ensure vehicle is in sound condition for safe driving.
3. Ensure all materials and equipment in the vehicle are properly safeguarded.
4. Ensure safety regulations are adhered to by passengers at all times.
5. Ensure entrusted vehicle is taken to the approved garage when due for service.
6. Maintain the vehicle assigned in a clean and immaculate condition
8. Deliver materials and documents, ensure delivery notes are duly signed and returned.
9. Maintain a vehicle log-book and ensure that all trips are duly recorded
10 Submit vehicle mechanical status reports monthly to Senior Driver CF.
10. Ensure proper and safe parking of the vehicle.
11. Report mechanical malfunctions, accidents or thefts, immediately to police.
12. Carry out other official duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. At least Advanced Level Certificate of Education with a credit in English at O Level
2. A certificate in automobile mechanics is an added advantage.
3. A certificate in Defensive driving is an added advantage.
4. A clean driving record of not less than 3 years, preferably with an INGO.
5. Possession of valid driving permit: DL, CM and CH classes preferred.
