Job Description
Abaaana Ministries, a Christian NGO dedicated to empowering vulnerable children, invites applications from mature Christians for a Finance Administrator position.
Title and purpose
Finance Administrator.
To provide efficient financial and administrative support that ensures the organization’s resources are managed with integrity, accountability, and good stewardship, in line with Christian values, donor requirements, and statutory regulations.
Duty station
Office-based in Kira, Waikio, with occasional town-based fieldwork.
Personal Qualities
As Abaaana is a Christian organization supported mainly by churches from the UK and Ireland and works mainly with church partners in Uganda, there is an operational requirement for this role that we require a born-again Christian.
Qualifications
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Commerce (Accounting option), Business Administration (Accounting/Finance), or a related field from a recognised university.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and other Microsoft Office applications.
Experience and skills
Essential
- At least 2–3 years’ relevant experience in finance or accounting, preferably within a non-governmental organisation (NGO), Christian ministry, or donor-funded environment.
- Experience in preparing financial reports, maintaining accounting records, bank reconciliations, and budget monitoring.
- Experience using QuickBooks accounting software.
- At least two years driving (automotive essential, manual an added advantage) with a clean driving permit (car).

- Level II of a recognised professional accounting qualification such as CPA, or an equivalent qualification.

- Able to maintain high levels of confidentiality, integrity and transparency in handling financial and other data.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Sound knowledge of accounting principles and financial management.
- Understanding of Ugandan tax laws, including PAYE, NSSF, withholding tax, and other statutory obligations.
- Familiarity with donor compliance requirements and financial reporting standards.
- Good understanding of internal controls and financial risk management.
Summary of Key Duties.
The successful candidate will provide finance and administrative support, including managing expense entries, budgets and income in QuickBooks, handling mobile money transactions and staff advances; and acting as the organisation’s bank agent. The role will also support financial reporting, payroll-related activities, procurement and insurance matters.
The post holder will oversee vehicle maintenance, office IT requirements, premises and security, including supervision of security guards. They will also support compliance and governance by submitting statutory returns, assisting with Board activities and contributing to budgeting alongside the Finance and Administration Manager.
