About the Company:
Steward is a credit-led neobank for private schools in Africa, starting in Uganda. We offer financing for operational and capital expenses. Our backers include Ventures Platform, Future Africa, Microtraction, Voltron Capital, and notable angel investors. We’re seeking a Head of Credit with hands-on experience in automated credit decision systems to oversee the credit function and implement effective credit risk and collections policies.

Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement credit policies, procedures, and risk management frameworks.
• Assess creditworthiness, ensuring regulatory compliance and alignment with Steward’s mission.
• Develop financial strategies and provide decision-making insights.
• Build relationships with financial institutions and investors to raise debt.
• Monitor credit portfolio, managing delinquencies and defaults.
• Oversee regular credit and financial reports.
• Train and mentor team members.
• Stay current with industry trends, regulations, and best practices.

Qualifications:
• Degree in Finance or a related field; an advanced degree or certification is a plus.
• Minimum three years of experience in credit, finance, or a related field.
• Knowledge of credit risk, collections policies, and financial regulations.
• Experience with automated credit decision systems.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Flexibility to travel to Uganda and other African countries as needed.
• Passion for education and commitment to Steward’s mission and values.
