aBi’s Background: aBi’s Background: The Agricultural Business Initiative (aBi) was jointly founded by the Governments of Denmark & Uganda in 2010 as a social enterprise that channels development cooperation funding to agribusinesses & agricultural service providers. aBi aims at building a competitive, profitable & sustainable agriculture and agribusiness sector in support of equitable wealth creation in Uganda. The aBi consists of two companies; aBi Finance Ltd a company limited by shares and aBi Development Ltd (formerly aBi Trust) limited by guarantee.

aBi Finance Ltd: In 2021 aBi Finance transitioned from a company limited by guarantee to a company limited by shares in a bid to commercialize its operations and attract new investments. As an impact investor, aBi Finance Ltd provides sustainable financing solutions in Uganda’s financial services sector. Our mission revolves around enabling access to agribusiness and green finance, achieved through three key strategies: offering competitively priced liquidity through lines of credit (LoC), mitigating agribusiness finance risks using the agribusiness guarantee (AG), and bolstering the capabilities of financial services providers through Financial Services Development (FSD) and Business Development Services (BDS).

aBi Finance Ltd seeks to fill the position of:

1. Investment Manager (LOC/AG) – (1 position)

The Investment Manager is responsible for leading the deployment and uptake of either Lines of Credit (LOC) or Agribusiness Guarantees (AG) to support partner Fls in deepening access to agribusiness financing. This is achieved through suitably priced liquidity and credit enhancement/collateral support to beneficiary agribusinesses and smallholder farmers sustainably. In each case, they take responsibility for end-to-end client relationship management, with the aim of supporting Financial Institutions to take full advantage of aBi Finance’s product and business development offerings. This includes carrying out due diligence and capacity assessments and then working with colleagues in financial services development to address any identified capacity gaps. The Investment Manager will personally provide technical advice and guidance to Financial Institutions and may sit ex-officio on their Board of Directors (Tier IVs), protecting aBi Finance’s interests and seeking to advance the agreed goals of the partnership. The goal is to generate a competitive, profitable, and sustainable agriculture and agribusiness sector in support of equitable wealth creation in Uganda.
