Job Description


OVERALL JOB PURPOSE
General Practitioner (GP) is an appropriately qualified and registered medical professional with knowledge and skills to provide personal, family and community orientated comprehensive primary care medical services to patients. As part of the general practice team he/she will be responsible for providing patient-centered, culturally appropriate, and individual holistic care to RHMH patients.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
• A Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy and not less than 2 years of hospital clinical practice.
• Registration and practicing license from the Medical Council.
• Utilizes EBM and applies it to clinical practice.
• Experience with clinical risk management and safety protocols.
• Willingness to adhere to all in-house and legal regulation.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assess the urgency and severity of presenting problems through history taking, examination and investigation.
• Recommend and, where appropriate, undertaking treatment options and carrying out/referring for appropriate interventions and procedures, including but not limited to prescribing, minor surgery and other general practice procedures, counselling, psychological interventions, advising and education.
• Referral for diagnostic, therapeutic and support services as required. Carry out conclusive diagnoses and treatment based on thorough investigations (e.g., lab tests/imaging, etc.) and comprehensive examination of the patient(s) following RHMH protocols
• Provide OPD cover as will be required ensuring that all patients are seen without unnecessary details. It is important that you regularly check the patients’ card box to ensure that not patients are waiting
• Liaise with specialists for proper management of patient(s) they have referred or consultations for patient(s)
• Carry out appropriate evidence-based screening, risk assessment and early detection of illness, disease and disability.
• Ensure patient information in your patient register is correct and up to date
• Keep up to date with the current medical systems through regular CME attendances/ presentations and regular reading
• Comprehend policies on charges, health schemes (e.g., scope of cover) and clearly fill out insurance claim forms and ensure that treatment is not made beyond the client’s entitlements
• Continually assess the systems in place and/or suggest ways of improving them
• Provide ward cover as will be required ensuring comprehensive patient management and providing clear written record of your management of the patient(s) in the patients’ files
• Conduct regular comprehensive ward rounds as will be required when you are on duty
• Prepare comprehensive reports and personally handover to the next M.O. on shift as will be required (you should not leave duty unless you have made a proper handover to the next M.O. on duty)
• Any other duties as will be assigned from time to time

Equipment and Machinery
• Be familiar with the inventory processes for equipment on the unit and check equipment as assigned.
• Be familiar with ISO standards.
