Job Description


The Nursing Officer/ Midwife will be in charge of screening, consenting, completing CRFs, enrolling, taking blood samples and COVID-19 swabs, testing for malaria, HIV and Hb and providing medical care to study participants. She will also be required to carry out quality control and assurance of study CRFs and other records

Roles & Responsibilities
• Screen participants for eligibility into GPC COVID-19 study;
• Administer the COVID-19 study information sheets and consent forms to study participants;
• Provide relevant health education and care to the study participants including HIV/AIDS, COVID-19, Malaria and collection of oral and nasal COVID-19 swabs;
• Consent and re-consent participants the COVID-19 study and file consent forms into study consent binders;
• Enrol eligible participants the COVID-19 study;
• Collect screening samples and take them to the laboratory with accompanying laboratory forms for batching and shipping to Entebbe. Test for malaria, HIV and Hb and give out these results;
• Provide pre and post-test counselling and give study results;
• Administer GPC COVID-19 questionnaire through the REDCAP app;
• Provide comprehensive medical care including examination to study participants and refer those with complicated problems to the study clinician;
• Carry out phlebotomy and collect other enrolment and follow study samples and send them to the MRC Kyamulibwa laboratory in a timely manner with all accompanying documents as per study protocol;
• Keenly track laboratory results from both UVRI and Entebbe laboratories and take appropriate action; Ensure that study participants get written documentation to receive their compensation;
• Review and update clinic supplies and make weekly clinic requisitions appropriately;
• Perform QA/QC of study CRFs and ICFs before they are sent for synchronization and filing; and,
• Resolve data queries generated by the data department.

Person Specification
• Degree in nursing or Diplomas in Comprehensive nursing;
• Short courses on research methods, GCP/HSP training, counselling, registered with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council;
• At least 2 years’ experience in a clinical and research setting, experience working with community surveys;
• Experience in Counselling;
• Experience in Phlebotomy;
• Experience in Collecting COVID-19 samples;
• Experience in Capturing data using the RED CAP app;
• Computer literacy and proficiency in office applications;
• Excellent communication skills; and,
• Good counselling skills;
