Job Title: People & Culture Locum Assistant
Department: People & Culture
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
Reports to: People & Culture Manager
Contract Type: Locum
Duration: 3 months (October–December 2026)
Nature of Assignment: This is a temporary three-month assignment and is not a permanent position. Future opportunities may be considered based on organizational needs, availability of funding and performance.
Purpose of the Position
The People & Culture Locum Assistant will provide administrative and operational support to the People & Culture function, contributing to the effective and timely implementation of employee lifecycle processes and day-to-day P&C activities.
The role will support areas including recruitment, onboarding, personnel records, contracts, performance management, staff welfare, employee engagement, HR documentation and maintenance of P&C records and trackers, while ensuring confidentiality and compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for, among others:
- Supporting recruitment and selection processes, including preparation of job advertisements, shortlisting, interview arrangements and onboarding.
- Supporting the preparation and processing of employment contracts, extensions, renewals and related documentation.
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date employee records and personnel files.
- Supporting onboarding, induction and separation processes.
Applicants should have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Human Resource Development, Business Administration, Industrial Relations or a related field.
- At least 1–2 years of relevant experience in Human Resources/People & Culture, preferably within an NGO or development organization.
- Practical experience in HR administration, recruitment, employee records, contracts and other employee lifecycle processes.
- Good knowledge of HR policies, procedures and employment practices.
- Good communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
- High levels of integrity, confidentiality and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; familiarity with HRIS systems is an added advantage.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff at different levels of the organization.
