Job Description


Job Title: Production Planning Engineer
Job Type: Full Time
Department: Logistic Department at Production Plant Location: Kampala and Up Country.
Reports To: Logistics Manager / Production Director
Supervises: Functionally – Production supervisor/ Installation supervisor.

Job Summary: A highly motivated and detail-oriented Individual. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and executing production plans to meet organizational goals and customer demands. The Production Planning Engineer will play a crucial role in optimizing production processes, ensuring efficient resource utilization, and maintaining high-quality standards.

Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Production Planning: Develop and implement production plan (Daily, weekly, monthly) for production plant to meet customer demand while optimizing resources and minimizing lead times.
2. Capacity Planning: Assess and manage production capacity to ensure alignment with demand forecasts and production schedules.
Inventory Management: Monitor and control stock levels to prevent stockouts or excess inventory, ensuring optimal use of storage space.
4. Collaboration: Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including production, procurement, and logistics, to streamline communication and address potential bottlenecks.
5. Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve overall production performance.
6. Scheduling: Create and maintain production schedules, taking into consideration production lead times, machine capacity, and workforce availability.
7. Risk Management: Proactively identify potential risks in the production process and develop contingency plans to mitigate disruptions.
8. Data Analysis: Analyse production data, performance metrics, and key performance indicators to drive informed decision-making and identify areas for improvement.
9. Purchasing: make forecast and plan for purchasing raw material & sub-components.
10. Take participation in ERP system developing process.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
1. On-Time Delivery: Measure the percentage of products delivered on time against the production schedule.
2. Capacity Utilization: Monitor and optimize production capacity utilization to meet demand without overloading resources.
3. Inventory Turnover: Evaluate the efficiency of inventory management by assessing the number of inventory turnovers within a specific period.
4. Production Efficiency: Assess overall production efficiency by comparing planned versus actual production output.
5. Lead Time Reduction: Track the reduction in production lead times through process improvements and optimization strategies.

Job Requirements:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in production planning or related roles within a manufacturing environment.

• Technical Skills:
➢ Proficient in using production planning software (Microsoft Excel) and ERP systems.
➢ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; should be very proficient in the use of spreadsheets, have experience dealing with numbers and manipulation of data.
➢ Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.

• Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with various teams.
• Detail-Oriented: Ability to manage multiple tasks with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Team Player: Collaborative mindset with a willingness to work closely with cross-functional teams.
