Job Description


1. Background to ACF
Action Against Hunger-ACF, worldwide is recognized as a leader in the fight against malnutrition, with a purpose to save the lives of undernourished children while providing communities with access to safe water and sustainable solutions to hunger. ACF implements innovative and life-saving programs in the sectors of Nutrition, Food Security & Livelihoods (FSL), and Water, Sanitation, & Hygiene (WASH) through capacity building projects in collaboration with government structures. Over the past 30 years of ACF has been delivering robust operations in Uganda and has gained significant knowledge and expertise using a multi-sectoral approach to design and implement program intervention based on the context, geared towards long-term solutions to hunger both in refugee and Host communities. Since 2013, the organization has been worked in the refugee settlements of Northern and Western Uganda providing emergency response as well as long-term development interventions.
2. Program development and coordination in ACF
Program development is an ongoing, comprehensive planning process used to establish projects at ACF. Quality program development is supported by a well-thought out and -documented plan of action. This is done to create a clear understanding of what a program are designed in respect to the organization’s development support; Nutrition, Food Security & Livelihoods (FSL), and Water, Sanitation, & Hygiene (WASH), what steps are required to design the program, what resources are required to implement your plans and what measures can be used to determine whether programs are successful in improving the livelihoods and building resilience of the beneficiaries.
Thus in order to achieve the positive results from these intervention there is need for strategic planning, that requires identifying goals and objectives, conducting a needs assessment to analyze the situation, setting priorities based upon the context and needs identified, identifying stakeholders and resources, designing an action plan, effective program implementation and assessing your level of achievement. Thus, it is against this backdrop that the
ACF Uganda Mission program department would like to hire the services of intern to support the program to department in the development of the country strategy 2021-2025, and work with the Senior Operations
Coordinator in the coordinate program activities. .

3. Duties and responsibilities
This individual will work closely with the Senior Operations Coordinator in the ACF Uganda Mission Country Office to develop and design programs. In addition, the PDC will work with the Country Director (CD) on Program quality issues. The PDC intern will contribute significantly to the development of the ACF Uganda Mission Country strategic development, ensuring quality-programming development leading to the design of new programs, in addition to contributing to strategic planning, and advancing impact measurement for the program intervention in ACF-Uganda geographical targeted areas.
The specific duties and responsibilities of intern will include:
• Desk research to generate literature that will inform the ACF-Uganda Mission country strategic plan 2021-2025 development;
• Research and assistance in drafting written reports for internal and external use based on guidelines provided by the supervisor;
• The PDC intern is expected to contribute substantively to the CO strategic planning and program expansion and lead the development and implementation of strategies to advance the ACF-Uganda Program
• Approach, and promote partnership through program development.
• Under the supervision and guidance of the SOC, the person in this position is expected to support technical improvements in program design and development to ensure quality and adherence to program standards.
This might entail training and supporting staff in prioritized areas

Core Competencies:
• Proven strong academic record of accomplishment.
• Knowledge and understanding of country development dynamics; economic, social, political.
• Experience in doing data gathering and research is must.
• Experience in collecting and searching data on the Internet.
• High level of computer literacy (Excel, Word, Statistical analysis Packages).
• Some previous work experience is advantageous.
• Proven analytical and report writing skills are advantageous.
• Knowledge of program management and development procedures

4. Qualifications
• Education: A final year or completed degree in Quantitative economics, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness
• Management, Business Administration, Development economics, Financial Management or related finance field, or pursuing a Master degree in Quantitative economics, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness Management, Business
• Administration, Development economics, Financial Management or related finance field or related finance field.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit for long periods and to concentrate on work, including typing, and turn out heavy volumes of work accurately, within short time frames under stressful situations in the context of a moderately noisy office with many interruptions. II. Working Conditions, Travel and Environment.
• The duties of the job require regular job attendance at least five days per week. Must be available to work outside normal office hours or on the weekends as required. Must be able to travel as required. While performing the duties of this job in the field, the employee may be exposed to precarious settings under high security risks and/or very basic living conditions and outside weather conditions, as well as to infectious diseases. .

Assisting with organization in areas of program development; at ACF-Uganda Country office in Kampala.
Capital office. Minimum 4 months (starting September 2020). .
