Job Description


RI Uganda is seeking a motivated and compassionate Programs Officer – Education & Economic Empowerment to support the implementation of our Scholars Program, Girls Empowerment Program (GEP), and Agriculture Cooperative Program.

Role Purpose

The Officer ensures smooth day-to-day execution of activities, provides hands-on support to schools and communities, manages program data, supports reporting, and strengthens relationships with beneficiaries and partners.

He/She will play a key hands-on role in day-to-day program delivery, field coordination, data management, and stakeholder engagement, ensuring high-quality support to beneficiaries while strengthening community relationships.

This role enables the RIUG Programs Lead to focus on high-level planning, quality assurance, and oversight.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Program Implementation & Field Support
  • Coordinate daily and weekly field activities across all three programs.
  • Support GEP Coaches during school sessions and ensure adherence to training schedules.
  • Conduct school visits to monitor scholar welfare, academic progress, and psychosocial needs.
  • Assist in implementing Agriculture Cooperative activities, including trainings, business guidance, and field monitoring.
  • Follow up on action plans for scholars with challenging home environments.
  1. Community & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Maintain active communication with Head Teachers, caregivers, religious leaders, and local authorities.
  • Support parent/guardian meetings, saving group sessions, and community service activities.
  • Assist in organizing student-led community service projects.
  • Help coordinate relationships between program schools to encourage collaboration and shared learning.
  1. Monitoring, Evaluation & Data Management
  • Collect, enter, and update program data in the RI database in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Conduct baselines, midlines, end-lines, attendance tracking, home visit assessments, and monitoring tools.
  • Upload program photos, documents, and field reports to the required drives.
  • Prepare draft monthly program reports for review by the supervisor.
  • Report scholar cases, program challenges, and risks early and propose follow-up actions.
  1. Logistics & Operations Support
  • Support preparation of training materials, procurement requests, and field logistics.
  • Assist with budgeting inputs and activity forecasts.
  • Track and manage small operational expenditures in line with RI financial guidelines.
  • Support event organization including trainings, program meetings, and the Annual General Meeting.
  1. Cross-Program Support
  • Ensure alignment of activities and schedules across Scholars, GEP, and Agric Cooperative programs.
  • Facilitate integration of learning between programs.
  • Support relationship-building between program beneficiaries and stakeholders.
  1. Safeguarding & Child Protection
  • Monitor scholar welfare and immediately report concerns.
  • Ensure all program activities follow RI safeguarding standards.
  • Support follow-up on scholar medical needs, home care plans, and high-risk cases.
  1. Other Responsibilities
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Supervisor

Required Qualifications & Competencies

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Education, Community Development, Social Work, Agriculture, Development Studies, or another related field
  • At least 2 years’ experience working in education, community development, or NGO program implementation
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • High level of flexibility and openness to learning new things
  • Is accountable for results and committed to excellence
  • Great team player, adaptable and respective of diverse culture and background of other team members
  • Good computer skills e.g., MS Office and Google Workspace are very strongly desired
  • Ability to work closely with schools, communities, and vulnerable populations
  • Basic monitoring, reporting, and data management skills
  • High level of integrity, honesty, empathy, and commitment to child safeguarding
  • Alignment with Rukundo International’s Mission and values
  • Willingness to travel regularly within Kabale District
