Amref Health Africa is seeking to recruit for the following vacancy for our WASH SDG project to support in integrating WASH & sCOVID-19 interventions.

Job Summary:

The Project Assistant- WASH will support the successful implementation of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) interventions to contribute to women and youth livelihood outcomes in communities as well as preventing the spread of COVID-19.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and coordinate the implementation of activities in the project.
  • Develop weekly, monthly and quarterly activity work plans.
  • Participate in district WASH/Livelihood review and annual planning meetings to provide technical assistance in defining tangible targets, project objectives, and revision of indicators.
  • Participate in developing timely and accurate funding proposals in line with donor requirements and Amref Health Africa standards in collaboration with other sector specialists.
  • Prepare timely monthly, quarterly, annual work plans and budgets to facilitate timely implementation of activities.
  • Prepare Terms of References (ToRs) for program implementation, surveys, evaluation and review evaluation reports.
  • Implement Water and sanitation and Hygiene projects to ensure quality, effectiveness and timely implementation.
  • Prepare and conduct training for WASH structures both in communities to run their own water supply systems and livelihood projects on a sustainable basis using FIETS approach.
  • Prepare timely monthly, quarterly, annual reports while ensuring that the reports are prepared in accordance with donors and Amref Health Africa standards.
  • Document and disseminate best practices on Water, sanitation and Hygiene and livelihood programs.
  • Organize regular performance review meetings with the key project stakeholders and supervise the work of partner organizations
  • Ensure adequate consultation and participation at all project stages while creating and coordinating community partnerships with other possible stakeholders (government, private sector, NGOs)
  • Work with stakeholders to refine indicators for evaluating the project successes and organizing participatory
  • reviews, conducting regular assessment of progress on the project activities.
  • Effective integration of project activities with other Amref Health Africa supported initiatives in the Program Unit while participating in operational research related to the project.
  • Co-ordinate and network with the District Community Development Office, District water office, District Health Inspectors Office, District Health Office, Community Based Organizations and NGOs and other relevant departments working in the District in providing technical support and assistance to all Water, Sanitation and Hygiene programs
  • Ensure that existing business processes, standards and guidelines related to WASH and livelihood initiatives are effectively implemented by District teams.
  • Participate fully and actively in all WASH and livelihood relevant assessments.
  • Collaborate with the country WASH Unit to provide other project staffs with the appropriate WASH and livelihood technical orientation needed to achieve enhanced livelihood of youth and women in the target communities.
  • Ensure that district WASH and production teams participates in monitoring and supporting the timely and appropriate utilization of budgeted resources for all WASH and livelihood related interventions;
  • Engage with key stakeholders, Community, government, church, mosque and other civil society representatives in order to maximize the impact of the organization efforts.
  • Monitor performance indicators and progress against milestones by developing weekly, monthly and quarterly plans and develop and timely submit monthly and quarterly reports.
  • Participate in conducting research and documentation of best practices and lessons learnt;
  • Collection of human interest stories; and dissemination.
  • Represent the project officer on duties outside the district e.g., planning meetings, workshops, NGO Forum Meetings etc.
  • Participate in national programs implemented at district level but have a bearing on livelihood enhancement e.g. World water day, Sanitation week celebration, World Health day etc.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant for the Project Assistant- WASH job must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health sciences, Development Studies, Community Health, Education, Development Economics, Social work and social administration or their equivalent. Advanced training in Public Health or development studies will be an added advantage
  • Two years of experience in WASH, PHASE and livelihood related projects.
  • Good understanding of SPHERE and other international standards.
  • Ability to conduct community WASH and livelihood needs assessment, program planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of WASH and livelihood activities
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
