JOB DETAILS:

Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee (www.rescue.org) is a world leader in relief, rehabilitation and post-conflict development services for those uprooted or affected by violent conflict and oppression. The IRC is currently working in over 40 countries around the world, addressing both the immediate and lifesaving needs of conflict affected people in emergencies and the reconstruction needs of post-conflict societies.
The IRC began programming in northern Uganda in 1998 in response to mass displacement and devastation wrought by rebel group, the Lord’s Resistance Army. In 2002, the IRC expanded to the remote, conflict-affected region of Karamoja and in 2011, began working with refugees in Kampala. Monitoring the influx of South Sudanese refugees at the end of 2015, the IRC began scaling up its response to refugees arriving in the West Nile region. The IRC currently works in 9 districts in Uganda, including Kitgum, Lamwo, Kyegegwa, Moroto, Amudat, Yumbe, Arua, Kasese and Kampala. The IRC will be moving into additional/new locations in refugee settlements in Kiryandongo.
IRC is currently looking for enthusiastic, hardworking and self-motivated persons to join our team to support the
effective delivery of the organization’s mission. TITLE: Security Guard (3 positions)
REPORTS TO: Field Coordinator
LOCATION: Kiryandongo
DURATION: 6 months, with possibility of extension
JOB OVERVIEW/SUMMARY: The Security Guard is responsible for ensuring security and safety of all IRC property, assets and personnel.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Guard the IRC office and residence compound
• Patrol the perimeter at regular intervals
• Alert residents of any unusual activities or signs of danger
• Remain awake, alert and security conscious at all times
• To keep the property of IRC under secure condition
• Prevent loss or damage to property
• Prevent entry of unauthorized persons into to the premises
• Log all vehicle and motorcycle movements in and out of the office premises
• Inform the coordinator and logistics officer about any security concerns
• Ensure all VHF handsets are functional by charging batteries promptly
• Perform any other duty that may be assigned to you from time to time
Confidentiality: Ensuring the non-disclosure of any information whatsoever relating to the practices and business of IRC acquired in the course of duty, to any other person or organization
without authority, except in the normal execution of duty

Education and Experience:

• A minimum of Ordinary Certificate of Education (O Level Certificate) or 3 years practical work experience;
• Experience working in a similar position is an added advantage.
• Knowledge of radio communication (VHF) an advantage
• Willing to work for longer hours
• High levels of Integrity
• Strong analytical skills.
• Excellent listening skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills including ability to gain trust and build relationships.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks; proven self-initiative and problem solving abilities.
• Good standard of spoken and written English and able to communicate effectively (written and verbal)
• Be able to work in a stressful setting and adapt quickly to changing environments
