Job Description


The position holder will supervise and coordinate the daily and technical operations of the Haematology Section.

Roles & Responsibilities
• Overseeing of general workflow and processes in the section;
• Ensuring personnel are oriented, trained, mentored and deemed competent before performing any test procedures;
• Ensuring all tests and equipment used have standard operating procedures written, reviewed and approved;
• Ensuring all tests and equipment used are validated and verified before putting to use;
• Ensuring integrity of study data through QA/QC activities/ procedures and strong data management;
• Ensuring the IQC/EQA schedules are followed and performance is evaluated for CAPA if any;
• Ensuring that required reagents and supplies are insufficient stocks and are kept securely in recommended conditions;
• Develop monthly reporting about study test updates to the laboratory manager;
• Ensuring health and safety as per SOPs by conducting safety induction of new staff/students, updating materials data safety sheets;
• Be in charge of laboratory equipment and schedule, oversee the maintenance, adjustment, or calibration of laboratory instruments and apparatus;
• Preparing for audits, work and support collaborative activities with other laboratory technologists at the MUL and other laboratories within the Unit;
• Monitoring quality indicators such as turnaround time and personnel productivity for continued quality improvement;
• Ensuring the personnel in the section are assigned roles, objectives set and performance appraisals done;
• Ensuring personnel annual leave are managed well so as not to affect the section operations;
• Report any incidences to the laboratory manager and quality manager for CAPA management;
• Provide monthly reports on the performance of the section on active studies, achievements, challenges, and improvement plans; and,
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Clinical Laboratories.

Person Specification
• MSc in a laboratory related subject and bachelor’s degree in biomedical laboratory technology/Science;
• Current Allied Health Professional Licence;
• Trainings in GCLP,GCP and HSP;
• Previous experience in working in a laboratory Clinical Trials environment in a supervisory role;
• Minimum 3 years post qualification in a clinical and research setting;
• Experience in managing sample collection, including pathogens;
• Experience in training laboratory-based staff and executing competence assessment;
• Experience in using laboratory information system;
• Experience in developing and implementing technical standard operating procedures relevant to the related work;
• Experience in managing person and their expectations;
• Should possess excellent knowledge in Good Clinical Laboratory Practice;
• Excellent knowledge in haematological techniques and interpretation of results;
• Excellent knowledge in Good Clinical Practice;
• Profound knowledge in implanting and maintaining ISO 15189_12 international status;
• Excellent spoken and written English;
• Conflict resolution skills;
• Self-starter/ innovation skills; and,
• Good interpersonal skills.
