Job Description


The Senior Research Associate will work closely with academic researchers and other field staff to perform a variety of tasks including, but not limited to: designing survey tools, refining surveying instruments through pilot testing, managing survey teams, checking and analyzing data, cleaning data and assisting in preliminary analysis, assisting in the writing of project reports and policy memos, and coordinating with key government partners at national and district level.

Responsibilities
The Senior Research Associate (SRA) will perform a variety of tasks including, but not limited to:
Work with the data manager to program survey tools using SurveyCTO, high-frequency checks and data flows
• Work with the Field Manager to ensure translation of survey tools in local languages
• Develop data collection protocols and data quality assurance protocols
• Develop a data collection plan (procurement, logistics and route plan) that ensures adherence to data collection budget
• Manage the project budget and ensure the efficient disbursement and reconciliation of project funds
Supervise training and hiring of team leaders, auditors and surveyors
• Conduct daily data quality checks, including the implementation of survey spot checks and back-checks
• Compile clean databases
• Assist the Principle Investigator (PI) team in data analysis Manage critical high-level relationships with donors, partner organizations and researchers
• Produce technical reports for donor and/or other stakeholders (e.g. fieldwork reports)
Keep the Research Manager and the Principle Investigator team appraised of all project activities

The research team expects the SRA to produce high quality deliverables, but also to maintain a high standard of professional and ethical conduct. This includes cultural sensitivity and respect when dealing with local populations, as well as full transparency and disclosure on the part of the SRA when dealing with the research team and partners.

Qualifications
• A Bachelor’s or Master´s degree in economics, public policy, international development, or related fields
• At least 2 years of work experience after graduation from undergraduate. Preferably in a research setting and data analysis. Exceptions may be made for excellent candidates who do not meet this criterion;
• Excellent project management and organizational skills; meticulous attention to detail; ability to work independently;
• Familiarity with randomized controlled trials;
• Excellent English verbal and written communication skills;
• Strong quantitative skills and knowledge of Stata required; programming and other technical knowledge a strong plus;
• Willingness to travel within Uganda;
• Demonstrated ability to manage relationships with partner organizations;
• Capability to manage multiple tasks efficiently;
• Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service;
• Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
