Job Description


Title: Sociologist
Reports to: RI USAID Water Project Manager
Locations: Bukomansimbi District (Bigasa Piped water supply and Namutumba District (Nabisiogi Piped water supply).
No of Vacancies: 01
Duration of assignment: 1st February 2022 to 31st December 2022.

Job Summary
Working under the overall direction of the RI-USAID WASH project Manager and in close coordination and alignment with other USHA regional staff and umbrella water associations, the district staff and the contractors. The sociologist will support the project in addressing emerging socio-economic community issues before and during the construction phase of the piped water supplies of Nabisoigi and Bigasa in Namutumba and Bukomansimbi respectively.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include at least the following tasks.
Community Engagements.
• To spearhead the community engagements in the areas where the piped water supply will be constructed to ensure easements of land and timely execution of the project.
• To address community concerns, perceptions, myths in regard to new water connections.
• To address community concerns, perceptions, myths in regard to new water connections.
• To work with the umbrella associations and Rotarians to get buy-in of the district, subcounty and community leadership to support the project implementation.
• To review the design reports and supports the segmentation and processing of new connections with a view to ensure that the poor are served.
• Ensure cross cutting issues including but not limited to mainstreaming environment, HIV & AIDs, Gender are integrated within the construction works at each site.
• To participate in monthly site meeting that involve District, subcounty and beneficiary community, take record of proceedings, and ensure follow up of actions,
• Monitor and maintain positive relationship with the contractor and the community, open-communication and professionalism.

General Responsibilities
• Represent the project and collaborate, plan and liaise with Ministry of Water staff, key local government officials and community members, as directed.
• Participate in discussions of the regional teams and bring out real time lessons and best practices for scale up and dissemination
• Liaise with M&E team to ensure that data collected is verifiable and meets quality standards.
• Contribute to RI-USAID WASH project’s routine reports and learning briefs for the client and other audiences
• Establish a collaborative and complementary relationship with the USHA Staff and the district.
• Endeavor to live by and promote RI-USAID WASH project’s values of Trustworthy, Respectful, Excellent, Diplomatic, Straightforward.
• Commit to completion of any other necessary tasks, as determined by the RI-USAID WASH Project Manager.

Qualifications.
• A Bachelor of Arts or sociology from a recognized University
• A postgraduate Diploma in project planning and management is an added advantage.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment Strong interpersonal skills, including team management and understanding others.
• Ability for conceptual and analytical thinking
• Ability to work independently & proactively
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.)
• Working knowledge of mainstreaming environment and social safeguards Experience in use of online data collection tools
