Job Description


The Technical Biosafety Officers are responsible for implementing the capacity strategy of biosafety and biosecurity work plan under the National Health Laboratory and Diagnostic Services. The post holder is responsible for strengthening of personnel capacity in Biorisk management reduction strategies through mobilization of trainings, audits, support supervisions and mentorships in Biosafety and Biosecurity for Ministry of Health and implementing partners.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Support the National coordination to execute planned interventions in biosafety and biosecurity.
• Participate in the development of Laboratory Biosafety/Biosecurity standards and guidelines for capacity building of personnel to promote safety and security awareness
• Participate in the development and execution of annual work plans and budgets based on the sector resources.
• Support implementation of Borisk management trainings, audits, mentorships and support supervisions
• Develop Laboratory Biosafety/Biosecurity audit plans and schedules.
• Participate in Laboratory Biosafety/Biosecurity audits.
Participate in the development of training and capacity-building materials for laboratory Biosafety/Biosecurity
• Submit periodic BRM performance reports.

Qualifications and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in medical Laboratory Technology Sciences
• Full registration and Practicing license with Allied Health Professionals Council
• Trained in lab Borisk management systems and lab quality management system
• At least 2 years experience in laboratory capacity-building roles.
• current knowledge on ISO standards ISO 35001:2019 & ISO 15190:2020
• Experience in health laboratory system strengthening.
